On May 19, 2018 the federal government released proposed changes to the regulations governing the National Safety Mark (NSM) and Importation.

The changes to the NSM requirements are not substantive, but rather bring consistency with the Act and other related regulations, including the Child Booster Seat and Tire regulations.

The changes to the importation requirements add the allowance and requirements for importation of used Mexican vehicles into Canada similar to existing rules for vehicles from the United States.  This is to satisfy agreements made between Canada and Mexico under NAFTA.
